What is Ad Rank?
Ad Rank is the score Google uses in the auction to decide whether your ad shows and in which position. The score depends on your bid, the quality of your ad and landing page, minimum thresholds, the context of the search, and the expected impact of assets and other ad formats.
Why is Ad Rank important?
- It decides your visibility: with too little Ad Rank, your ad does not show or sits far down.
- Quality counts: a higher bid alone is not enough.
- Impact on costs: with a strong Ad Rank, a lower bid can be enough to keep your position.
Examples of Ad Rank
- Advertiser A bids €2.00 with a weak landing page and advertiser B bids €1.50 with a highly relevant ad: B can rank higher.
- An ad that does not meet a minimum threshold does not show, even with a high bid.
- An ad with relevant assets can get a higher Ad Rank than the same ad without.
How do you improve Ad Rank?
You improve Ad Rank by making your ad and landing page match the search better, adding relevant assets and choosing a suitable bid. Quality Score helps you find weak spots. Want help with the approach? See our Google Ads management.
