What is remarketing?
Remarketing is reaching people again who have visited your website or app before, or who are already customers, with ads that fit their behavior. In Google Ads you use audience lists for this. Retargeting is often used to mean the same thing. Tracking visitors requires consent under the GDPR and cookie rules.
Why is remarketing important?
- A warm audience: the people on your list already know you.
- Recovering abandoned purchases: you remind visitors of what they left in their cart.
- A message that fits: visitors to a product page get a different ad than existing customers.
Examples of remarketing
- A sports store shows the product again to visitors who left their cart.
- A B2B software company shows visitors to the pricing page an ad about a demo.
- An online store excludes recent buyers, so they do not keep seeing the same ad.
How do you use remarketing?
Create audience lists in Google Ads based on visits to certain pages, decide how long people stay on the list and write separate ads for each group. Make sure your cookie banner asks for consent and keep an eye on how often the ad appears. Read more about the setup under Google Ads campaigns.
