What is FAQ schema?
FAQ schema is structured data of the FAQPage type that makes the frequently asked questions and answers on a page machine-readable. It helps search engines understand the content better. Since May 2026, Google no longer shows expandable FAQ results, but the markup remains valid.
Why is FAQ schema important?
- Clear structure: questions and answers are unambiguous for machines.
- No more expandable results: the markup adds no extra display in Google, but it still helps with understanding the page.
- Visible text matters most: clear questions and answers on the page itself help people and AI assistants the most.
Examples of FAQ schema
- A service page with questions such as “How much does a website cost?” and “How long does a project take?”.
- An online store with questions about delivery and returns.

How do you add FAQ schema?
First make the questions and answers visible on the page. Then add FAQPage markup in JSON-LD that contains exactly the same text. Test the code with the Schema Markup Validator from schema.org. This is part of technical SEO.
