What is schema markup?
Schema markup is code on a web page that labels its content using the schema.org vocabulary, so search engines understand whether a page is about a product, an article, a business or a recipe. It is usually added as JSON-LD, the format Google recommends. It is one form of structured data.
Why is schema markup important?
- Clarity for search engines: you state explicitly what your page contains instead of leaving it to guesswork.
- A chance at rich results: with the right markup, Google may show stars, prices or breadcrumbs.
- Unambiguous facts: details such as your business name and opening hours are easier for machines to read.
