What is search intent?
Search intent is the goal behind a search: what the searcher wants to know, find, do or buy. There are four main types: informational, navigational, commercial and transactional search intent. For every query, Google tries to show the pages that best match that intent.
Why is search intent important?
- The right page for the right query: a page that does not match the intent ranks poorly.
- More relevant visitors: people who find what they wanted stay and bounce less.
- Better conversion: you match the content and the call to action to the customer’s stage.
Examples of search intent
- Informational: “what is seo”
- Commercial: “best seo agency”
- Transactional: “request seo agency quote”
- Navigational: “marketingconcurrent contact”
How do you use search intent?
Look at the top ten for your keyword: which type of page ranks there? Create a page of the same type and give searchers what they expect (on-page SEO).
