What is a subfolder?
A subfolder is a folder in the URL structure of a website, such as /blog/ in example.com/blog/. Pages in a subfolder sit under the same domain as the rest of the website. Subfolders group pages by topic or section and form the basis of a logical URL structure.
Why is a subfolder important?
- One domain: backlinks to any section contribute to the same domain.
- Order: a logical folder structure makes your website easier to understand and manage.
- Simpler management: one system, one set of settings and one analytics setup, even with extra languages or sections.

How do you use subfolders?
Group pages by topic in logical folders, keep the depth limited and use short, descriptive folder names. If you move pages to another folder, set up 301 redirects, update your internal links and list the new URLs in your sitemap. See technical SEO.
