Campaign

Definition in short: The part of your Google Ads account that has its own budget, goal and settings.

What is a campaign?

A campaign is the part of your Google Ads account where you set the budget, goal, location, language and bid strategy. Every campaign has its own campaign type, such as Search, Shopping or Performance Max, and contains ad groups with ads and keywords. One account can hold several campaigns at the same time.

Why is a campaign important?

  • Separate budgets: you decide per campaign how much to spend, so one part cannot use up the budget of another.
  • Separate goals: you steer each campaign towards its own result, such as leads or online sales.
  • Clear reporting: you see per campaign what it costs and what it delivers.

Examples of a campaign

  • A search campaign for a local plumber covering all searches around “boiler replacement”.
  • A Shopping campaign for a sporting goods store with a daily budget of €25.
  • A separate brand campaign, so searches for your company name have their own budget.

How do you set up a campaign?

Create a separate campaign for each goal, product or region and pick the campaign type that fits that goal. Then set the budget, location and bid strategy. You can read more about our approach under Google Ads campaigns.
