What is a Shopping campaign?
A Shopping campaign shows product ads with an image, title, price and store name in Google’s search results. The data comes from your product feed in Google Merchant Center, so you write no ad copy and choose no keywords. Google decides which products to show based on the feed and the search query.
Why is a Shopping campaign important?
- Visual: searchers see the product and price before they click.
- Clear expectations: whoever clicks already knows the product and the price.
- Feed-driven: an improvement in the feed carries through to all your products at once.
Examples of a Shopping campaign
- A running shoe with a photo and a price of €119 appears for “men’s running shoes”.
- A store with 500 products divides them into product groups per brand.
- A price change in the feed shows up in the ads by itself, without editing any copy.
How do you set up a Shopping campaign?
First make sure your product feed in Google Merchant Center is correct, link it to Google Ads and create a campaign with a budget and bid strategy. Google increasingly steers advertisers towards Performance Max, but the standard Shopping campaign still exists next to PMax. See e-commerce stores.
