What is feed optimization?
Feed optimization is improving the titles, descriptions, attributes and categories in your product feed, so that products are found more easily and matched with search queries. The goal is for Google to show your products to the right searchers and for listings and ads to match what people are looking for.
Why is feed optimization important?
- Found more easily: titles with brand, type, color and size match the way people search.
- Fewer disapprovals: complete and correct attributes prevent problems in Merchant Center.
- More relevant impressions: your ad budget goes to products that fit the search query.
Examples of feed optimization
- The title “Shoe” becomes “Women’s running shoe Trail Pro, black, size 7”.
- Adding brand and GTIN to all products where they are missing.
- Filling in the Google product category more precisely.
How do you use feed optimization?
Start with products that have many impressions but few clicks, or that are disapproved. Put the most important search terms at the front of the title and fill in missing attributes, in your store or with rules in Merchant Center. Measure what changes after each round. See e-commerce stores.
