What is the top impression rate?
The top impression rate is the percentage of your impressions where your ad appeared anywhere above the organic search results. It is less strict than the absolute top impression rate, where your ad was the very first ad above the organic results.
Why is the top impression rate important?
- Visibility: ads above the organic results stand out more.
- Measuring position: impression share says how much you got, top impressions say where.
- Comparing campaigns: a brand campaign usually scores differently than a generic campaign.
Examples of the top impression rate
- 400 of your 1,000 impressions appeared above the organic results: a top impression rate of 40 percent.
- A brand campaign has a high rate, a generic campaign in a busy market a lower one.
- A higher bid or better ad quality can make the rate go up.
How do you use the top impression rate?
Review the top impression rate per campaign, next to impression share, and check whether the position fits your goal. Higher is not always better: appearing at the top can cost more per click, so weigh it against your conversions. Read more at Google Ads.
