What is Domain Authority?
Domain Authority (DA) is a score from 1 to 100 from the software company Moz that predicts how well a website may rank in search engines. The score is based mainly on the number and quality of backlinks. It is a Moz metric, not a Google factor: Google does not use the score when ranking pages.
Why is Domain Authority important?
- Quick comparison: a single number shows how your website compares with competitors.
- Judging link opportunities: useful for choosing which sites you want to earn a link from.
- Do not overrate it: it remains an estimate that fluctuates and guarantees nothing about rankings.
Examples of Domain Authority
- A new online store has a DA of 8, while its biggest competitor has a DA of 52.
- A local builder with a DA of 20 benchmarks itself against three peers in the region.
- A blogger pitches a link to an industry site with a higher DA than their own.
How do you use Domain Authority?
Use DA as a benchmark in Moz Link Explorer, not as a goal in itself. Also look at organic traffic, rankings and the relevance of linking sites. We build trustworthy backlinks through link building.
