What is link juice?
Link juice is the informal name for the value a link passes on to the page it points to. The idea comes from PageRank, the algorithm Google uses to measure the strength of links. The stronger and more relevant the linking page, the more value it can pass on.
Why is link juice important?
- Rankings: pages with strong links have a better chance of ranking higher.
- Distributing wisely: with internal links you send value to the pages you want to rank.
- Guiding link building: not every link is worth the same, so it helps you choose targets.
Examples of link juice
- A link from a well-known trade blog to your service page passes more value than a link from an unknown directory.
- A homepage with many links spreads its value across many target pages.
- A nofollow link is treated by Google as a hint and does not always pass on value.
How do you use link juice?
Earn links from relevant, reliable websites and link internally from strong pages to the pages you want to rank. Keep the number of links per page to what is useful, so the value is not diluted too far (link building).
