What is pagination?
Pagination is the splitting of a long list, such as products in a category or articles on a blog, across several numbered pages. Each page has its own URL. Google no longer uses the old rel="next" and rel="prev" links, so search engines find the pages through ordinary links.
Why is pagination important?
- Fast pages: you do not load a hundred products at once.
- Findable content: search engines also reach the products behind page 2 and beyond.
- Overview: visitors can work through a big list in parts.
Examples of pagination
/running-shoes?page=2in a store category- A blog overview with “Previous” and “Next” buttons
- A search results list with numbered pages
How do you use pagination?
Use ordinary links to every page, give each page a canonical tag pointing to itself and do not set the pages to noindex if you want the products on them to be found. Read more under e-commerce stores.
