What is FCP (First Contentful Paint)?
FCP (First Contentful Paint) is the time between the start of page loading and the moment the first content becomes visible, such as text, an image or a logo. It measures how quickly a visitor sees something appear. FCP is not a Core Web Vital, but it is a useful supporting metric.
Why is FCP important?
- First impression: a page that shows something quickly feels faster.
- Early warning: a slow FCP often points to server or script problems.
- Guideline: Google considers an FCP of 1.8 seconds or less good.
Examples of FCP
- A page shows its heading after 1.2 seconds: a good FCP.
- A page stays blank for 3.5 seconds because of heavy scripts: a slow FCP.
- A text logo appears immediately while a large slider loads later.
